Newly approved Diversity perspective course in ICC (ID & III, CA)Contributed by Timothy Johnson on 12/05/17
Music of Latin America, taught by Prof. Carlos Ramirez, meets MWF at 1-1:50pm and is open to non-music majors as well as music majors. It includes a foundational survey of the musical idioms in Latin America; an in-depth study of specific issues found in contemporary Latinx musics, with a strong emphasis on cultural politics of race, class, and gender; and a case study of how reggaeton can restructure racial identities, building links between the Caribbean, the African Diaspora, and the globe. |
