Colleagues, To those of you who are interested in taking part in this initiative, I want to say, first, that I'm looking forward to working with you this semester. Second, the meetings are voluntary and I don't expect you to be there on both Tuesday and Thursday. I simply picked both days because I know some of you won't be able to come on one of them. Also, my own sense is that we should initially have a couple of meetings as a group before I schedule one-on-one meetings with you. That way, we'll all have a general sense of the challenges faculty face in different schools/programs before we design the individualized meetings. Never having done this sort of a thing before, I expect to learn along with you as the semester unfolds. Finally, I volunteered to be part of this initiative because I feel that perhaps there's something in my experience and history that might be useful to another person who is pursuing their own career path. In other words, I want to share what I can during this period of my phased retirement. If nothing else, we can brainstorm together about what might need to happen at the level of the Dean's office, and higher up, for mid-career faculty to get the support and resources they need. Please do feel free to call (274-3557) or send me an email, abarlas@ithaca.edu. Individuals with disabilities requiring accommodations should contact Asma Barlas at abarlas@ithaca.edu or (607) 274-3557. We ask that requests for accommodations be made as soon as possible. |
