Assistant Professor David Hajjar in the Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology Department published an article in the Perspectives of the ASHA Special Interest Groups in December 2017.

The article was published in the Perspectives of the ASHA Special Interest Groups.  The American Speech-Language and Hearing Association (ASHA) has 19 special interest groups (SIGs) that focus on specific areas in the field of speech-language pathology and audiology. Dr. Hajjar and his co-author John McCarthy from Ohio University in Athens, Ohio, published the article titled: “Matching the Mode, the Time, and the Situation,” in the December 2017 SIG 12 Perspectives which focuses on the area of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC). AAC is comprised of a variety of strategies and systems that support people with communication disorders to engage, participate, and communicate with others. The article content discussed how activities in music and adaptive sport experiences not only create multiple opportunities for communication, but also encapsulate different demands, purposes, and contexts for communication leading to a wide range of modalities possible to express messages and support social exchange.
