About the Symposium

Started in 2010, the Symposium is organized by the Finger Lakes Faculty Development Network (FLFDN) as a part of Ithaca College’s Annual Educational Technology Day.  The sessions will present innovative uses of both common and new technologies for teaching and learning.  In addition, we seek submissions that focus on best practices in the use of technologies and pedagogies, as well as scholarship that assesses the impact of technology on student learning. Anyone may submit a proposal for a symposium session. Guidelines, and a link to the proposal submission form, follow.

About Educational Technology Day
Educational Technology Day is a twenty-seven-year-old regional event at Ithaca College attracting over 1,600 people annually from the upstate New York region. Primarily oriented to technology in higher education, the free event is a showcase for national and local hardware and software vendors demonstrating their latest technology with an emphasis on its use by faculty, staff, and students. Registration for Ed Tech Day is free and open to all, whether or not they are involved in the Symposium. Submitting a Proposal

· This year’s theme is Innovation, Access and Humanizing Technology.

Sessions will feature demonstrations of innovative uses of commonly available technologies, applications to teaching of new technologies, or research assessing the impact of technology in student learning. Sessions may feature innovative uses of technologies, applications to teaching and learning, researching assessing the impact of technology on student success, as well as challenges or problems you are trying to solve. We encourage presentations that include students as collaborators and elevate the student voice.

· Presentations may include, but are not limited to:

o   Connected learning

o   Active learning spaces

o   Globally networked learning environments

o   Personalized learning

o   Adaptive learning-(ex Smart Sparrow, Lumen)

o   Digital identity (ex-Domain of One's Own)

o   Academic Innovation centers (such as Digital Innovation Greenhouse at University of Michigan http://ai.umich.edu/about-ai/digital-innovation-greenhouse/)

o   Accessibility

o   OER/open access/open scholarship

· Teaching and Learning with Technology Symposium sessions will be offered as one of the concurrent tracks during the Ed Tech Day event. Sessions are 20-25 minutes long; presenters should allow time for discussion or Q&A.  Proposals on similar topics may be grouped into a 50-minute session. Please indicate in the space provided in the submission form if you would like to be paired with another session.

Prior to submission, as you write your proposal, please consider:

o   A concise title

o   Sessions are 20-25 minutes in length

o   Descriptive abstract of no more than 200 words

o   Learning objectives of your session

o   Description of how your will engage your audience

o   The name of the session you would like to be paired with (if applicable)

o   Collaborators should include names of all presenters

Proposals are due on Monday, February 19, 2018 

• Proposals will be reviewed by a committee of the Finger Lakes Faculty Development Network, and presenters will be notified by March 1.
• All presenters must register for Ed Tech Day event at Ithaca College. It is free.
• The conference room will have a projector, wireless capability, and a connection for a laptop.

The conference room seats about 50. The audience will be faculty, staff, or students from Ithaca College and other institutions. Presenters should bring handouts for the audience as appropriate.
