20th Anniversary of the Finger Lakes Environmental Film Festival (FLEFF), April 8 -15, 2018Contributed by Patricia Zimmermann on 02/22/18 The Finger Lakes Environmental Film Festival celebrates its 20th anniversary this year. The festival runs April 9 through April 15, 2018 on the Ithaca College campus and downtown at Cinemapolis. The festival features over 100 events and over 50 guests, including people from around the world and Ithaca College faculty. Interdisciplinary and international, it programs film screenings, new media exhibitions, concerts, lectures, readings, workshops, master classes, roundtables, labs, and parties. Its signature events include a classical music concert with projections in Hockett Recital Hall and commissioned live new music for silent films. Most events feature robust audience discussion and exchange. This year's festival explores the theme of GEOGRAPHIES: Geographies conjure maps that offer fantasies of colonialism and liberation, imperialism and revolution, congruencies and contingencies, materialities and imaginaries. Geographies conjure maps that offer fantasies of colonialism and liberation, imperialism and revolution, congruencies and contingencies, materialities and imaginaries. Geographies suggest spaces and places in relation to each other. Geographies also imply a way to move from one place to another. But geographies can disguise their own repressed violence, lands taken, bloodlands, borders fought, histories buried. Geographies are also immaterial zones of the psyche, politics, code, networks, bodies, affect, music, the senses, non-places. Geographies locate places and things, but also dislocate everything, offering nowheres and elsewheres awaiting our mapping. Click HERE for background and information on FLEFF. The 2018 program will roll out in a few weeks. FLEFF: A DIFFERENT ENVIRONMENT |
