The talk will be held in Job Hall 160 on February 27th from 4-5:15 pm. A description of the talk follows: Abject Legibility: Black transmen and (Hyper)(In)Visibility In this work, I present the concept of "(Hyper)(In)Visibility" to articulate the unique experiences of Black transgender men. Specifically, this work examines the lives of Black transmen before and after medical transition, by highlighting the geo-political mechanisms that cause Black transmen to encounter societal erasure prior to transitioning when they are read as Black girl/women, and hypervisibiliyy after transitioning and passing for cisgender Black men. Individuals with disabilities requiring accommodations should contact Carla Golden at golden@ithaca.edu or (607) 274-3504. We ask that requests for accommodations be made as soon as possible. |
