2018 marks the 6th year that the Ithaca College Association of Health Professionals (ICAHP) is leading a networking trip to a city outside of Ithaca. Our group has historically sought to connect with potential employers, collaborate with individuals from different industries, and strengthen applications for graduate school. This trip can also serve as a fundamental part in your development as a health professional. We hope to showcase to you a sampling of the wide range of careers that are possible with a degree from the department of health promotion and physical education. Due to the nature of the trip, we can only accept a limited number of students. At the bottom of this post is a link to the application. This year, we will be travelling to Boston, Massachusetts from Thursday, April 5th to Saturday, April 7th. We currently have three site visits secured: Commonwealth Care Alliance, Milford Regional Medical Center, and Boston Health Care for the Homeless Program. We are continuing to investigate other sites and health professionals that may be of interest to our group of applicants. At each site, we will learn about the organization as well as the representatives who present to us, and you will be able to ask questions and engage in discussions about contemporary issues. Additionally, there will be a social event coordinated by Commonwealth Care Alliance and the Ithaca College Department of Alumni Relations; alumni of various health-oriented professions in the greater Boston area will be invited to this event to network with us. On Friday night and Saturday morning of the trip, you will have the opportunity to explore Boston. If you are accepted, there is a one credit course in which you must enroll for the sake of preparing to meet with our contacts and improving knowledge about the current state of healthcare. The course is posted on homerconnect, and we will meet Wednesday mornings at 8:00am for the few weeks leading up to the trip. If you have a time conflict at that time or are already enrolled in 18 credits, we will work with you to find a solution. As part of the application, we ask if you have driving privileges at Ithaca College. We do not require that every applicant has driving privileges, but we would like to know if you are 21 years of age and interested in potentially driving to Boston. If you are not an approved driver but are interested in becoming one, here is the link to the resources that you will need: https://www.ithaca.edu/riskmanagement/ed_prog/ A majority of the trip is already funded, and we are still in the process of fundraising. If accepted, you will still need to pay a nonrefundable deposit of up to $75. In the application, please note if you will have difficulty paying this fee. Should you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact us via email. We look forward to hearing from you!
