Asian American Alliance (AAA) is excited to officially announce its events for Focus Asia Month 2018! Join us throughout the month of April for different events dedicated to exploring and celebrating Asian culture and identity!
THEME: In the age of balancing patriotism and dissent, Asian Americans are creating opportunities that we never had before. We are carving paths to better representation and creating spaces that address our unique needs as Asian Americans and as people of color. When we no longer accept the roles we are given, and instead fight for change, we are able to not only survive, but thrive. FIRST GENERATION STUDENT PANEL: Friday, April 6 from 5-7 PM Klingenstein Lounge We're going to kick off Focus Asia Month with an identity panel with First Generation! Come listen to first generation students speak firsthand about their identities, the obstacles they face, the ways they overcome them, opportunities available to them, and what it means to them to be first generation. IC Square FOOD! GAMES! PERFORMANCES! Join AAA for a night of festivities celebrating Asian culture! We'll have tables with different activities, an Asian-style buffet, and various awesome performances throughout the night! Clarke Lounge AAA is excited to present Mx. AC Dumlao, a queer trans non-binary first-generation Filipino-American artist and advocate, whose work is dedicated to affirming and uplifting underrepresented folks and their intersectional identities. From AC Dumlao's website, CALL ME THEY: "AC is queer but not white. Cis-assumed but trans. Trans but non-binary. American but Filipino. Asian but Brown. The buts keep on coming. A discussion about intersectionality and queerness." Individuals with disabilities requiring accommodations should contact Asian American Alliance at icasianamericanalliance@gmail.com. We ask that requests for accommodations be made as soon as possible. |
