Associate Professor of Theatre History Chrystyna Dail presented her paper, "Man of the Year: Margo Jones and the Development of Summer and Smoke" at the Mid-America Theatre Conference on March 16th in Milwaukee, WI. Incorporating cultural historical and critical feminist lenses, the paper interrogates the androcentric rhetoric promulgated by 1940s critics as well as modern misinterpretations of the historical data that continue silencing the significance of Margo Jones and the original Broadway production of Summer and Smoke. Dail also chaired a panel titled,"Tilting Towards Catastrophe? Global and Avant-Garde Theatres, and the Politics of Performance."
