Environmental Studies Alumna, Denise O’Leary '17, was invited by Sustainable Tompkins to read her nonfiction memoir essay about family affected by a devastating Philippine typhoon at Ithaca’s Earth Day celebrations. The piece, “Surge,” was initially a product of her work in Fae Dremock’s ENVS 36000 class on humanities issues involved in Katrina. The piece was revised and submitted to Alluvian, and published in the fall 2017 issue.
