The Department of Modern Languages & Literatures is extremely pleased to announce that French and Spanish double major Kaitlyn Matrassi '17 has been named a Dean's Fellow at Columbia University and will begin her graduate career in French/Francophone Studies in fall 2018. Kaitlyn graduated summa cum laude in May 2017, having also completed an honors thesis entitled, "Le paradoxe du voile: Femmes musulmanes et laïcité," which focused on the contradictions of the veil laws and burkini bans in France.  She has spent the last year teaching English in Challans, France under the auspices of the Cultural Services Office of the French Embassy. We are very proud of her! Félicitations! Bravo!
