Ayana Mathis is a graduate of the Iowa Writers' Workshop and a recipient of the 2014-15 New York Public Library's Cullman Center Fellowship. Her first novel The Twelve Tribes of Hattie (Vintage) was a New York Times Bestseller, a 2013 New York Times Notable Book of the Year , an NPR Best Books of 2013 and was chosen by Oprah Winfrey as the second selection for Oprah's Book Club 2.0. Acclaimed novelist Ayana Mathis, assistant professor at the University of Iowa's Writers' Workshop and the author of The Twelve Tribes of Hattie, will give a reading, Q&A, and book-signing in the Handwerker Gallery on Thursday, April 12 at 6 PM as part of the Distinguished Visiting Writers Series.
