Music Professor Frank Gabriel Campos appeared as guest artist in Russia in March, will appear as guest soloist with the Binghamton Philharmonic in May, and will be honored with the Award of Merit from the International Trumpet Guild that same month.

School of Music trumpet professor Frank Campos spent nine days in Sochi, Russia, participating in the Winter International Arts Festival, the main winter cultural event in Russia. Campos was the only American on an international teaching faculty from a dozen countries. The Festival's Teaching Academy attracts students primarily from Europe and Russia.

On May 19, Campos will be the guest soloist with the Binghamton Philharmonic, playing the Haydn Trumpet Concerto. He recently left the Philharmonic after 29 years as principal trumpet. The concert will take place at The Forum in downtown Binghamton. Tickets at www.binghamtonphilharmonic.org

Campos will be the recipient of the 2018 Award of Merit from the International Trumpet Guild, to be presented at the annual International Trumpet Guild Conference in San Antonio, Texas. The ITG Award of Merit is given to those individuals who have made substantial contributions to the art of trumpet playing through performance, teaching, publishing, research, composition, and/or support of the goals of the International Trumpet Guild. This award has been given to only 36 individuals in the 42 year history of the ITG.  It is noteworthy that Ithaca College is the only institution to have two current trumpet professors honored by the ITG Award of Merit.  Kim Dunnick received the award in 2004.
