The office of College Relations and Communications have arranged a gift for anyone at IC who wants one: A complimentary professional head shot!

When:

No appointments needed; sittings are first come, first-served during these times:

  • April 18 10:00-5:00
  • April 19: 1:30-6:00

Each sitting should take no more than 5 minutes.

Where:

Alumni Hall conference room (224).

There is one open-access 15-minute parking spot in our lot, right in front of the garage. We can't guarantee it will be empty. The next-closest lot is just across 96B.

What you get:

Photo files will be emailed individually to each participant after the shoot. By default, photos also will be uploaded into our office's photo database. Anyone who wants to get a headshot but does not want us to have their image in the database can simply indicate this when they come for their sitting.

Recommendations for what to wear:

The backdrop will be off white/light gray. Below are some general suggestions for professional clothing styles that tend to be the most versatile, timeless, and camera-friendly.

  • When choosing clothing, think classic; it’s best if the clothing doesn't automatically give away what decade it is.
  • Try to stay away from anything with bold, distracting patterns or colors unless you can wear a plain blazer or sweater over it.
  • Avoid clothing with really tight grids or a small herringbone pattern. They can have a moiré pattern effect on camera. Thin stripes that are a little further apart are okay.
  • Try not to wear stark white unless it’s under something, such as a jacket or sweater.
  • If you wear a suit, pick something that fits you well and is preferably a dark color like navy blue or gray. Choose a suit that doesn't bunch up when you button it or when you sit down.
  • If you wear a tie, ideally it should match the shirt and the jacket.
  • If you wear a suit without a tie, choose a non-white shirt if possible: white shirts without a jacket and tie to break them up can lose detail in the color and folds.
  • If you wear a button-down shirt, it's best to wear a jacket or sweater of some kind to layer the look. If not, choose a darker color shirt or something with pockets or details to avoid it looking like a head floating on a blank, boxy shirt, and unbutton a button or two.
  • Try to stay away from short sleeves; professional headshots tend to look better without bare arms.
  • For jewelry, go for something small, classic, and not very reflective or flashy.

Individuals with disabilities requiring accommodations should contact Adam Baker at abaker@ithaca.edu or (607) 274-1319. We ask that requests for accommodations be made as soon as possible.
