The Office of Human Resources and TIAA invite you to attend the IC My Future Retirement Planning Event on Wednesday, May 2, 2018 from 10am to 2:15pm in Emerson Suites.

Whether you’re close to retirement or haven’t started saving for it quite yet, we’re sure you’ll find this program to be of great value. Each set of concurrent sessions are designed to be beneficial no matter where you are in the planning stage:

Early-Stage Planning

  • The Starting Line: Beginning to Save for Retirement
Sometimes it’s hard to think about retirement when you’re just starting out in your career. The truth is, that’s when thinking ahead can do the most good! It all starts with some practical knowledge. TIAA’s workshop leader will help you get ahead of your retirement saving with some tools and information you can use right now.

  • Can I Afford to Start Planning for My Future? Yes
Many employees especially, early on in their careers or shortly after life events contemplate whether or not they can afford to start or continue contributing to their retirement funds.  We will discuss the importance of continuing to contribute, finding creative ways to capitalize on your income, budgeting and cash flow management.  We will get you to a place where you can take advantage of your employer’s retirement plan.

  • Retirement Readiness Starts Now
Your Emeriti benefit is one of the most tax-efficient ways to save for healthcare expenses in retirement.  Find out what Ithaca College is doing for you and how you can enhance your retirement planning by starting now with contributions to your Emeriti plan.

Mid-Stage Planning

  • Halfway There: A Retirement Check-Up
Give your retirement savings a checkup. TIAA’s workshop leader will provide information to help you determine where you need to be in your retirement savings and how to get back on track if you’re behind.

  • Money at Work: Foundations of Investing
It doesn’t matter how old you are, where you are in your career or how much you make. Reaching retirement goals requires the same things: spend less, save more. It’s really that simple. You’ll discover what stocks, annuities, mutual funds and IRAs are so you can determine which ones best fit your needs. Learn about risk and finding your risk tolerance and see how the same savings principles work for short- or long-term goals.

  • IC Retirement Policy and Procedures Explained
Get answers to your questions related to retiring from Ithaca College. Much of your success in retirement will depend on how skillfully you plan for it. This workshop is a good place to start! During this session, you will be provided with
information to help better prepare you to navigate the retirement process.

Advanced-Stage Planning

  • The Basics of Social Security
This workshop will provide you answers to questions you have about Social Security and Medicare. The seminar will be more beneficial to you if you review your Social Security statement before coming to the session. Your free statement is available online through your my Social Security account at: www.socialsecurity.gov/myaccount

  • Paying Yourself: Income Option is Retirement
It’s time to consider a little payback. You’ve made a lot of sacrifices in order to put away enough money to retire. When it’s finally time, do you know how to get the money back? There are a lot of considerations, rules and tax implications that make these decisions very important and more complex.

  • Medicare and Me: When am I Eligible & What are My Options
Are you unsure about when you are eligible for Medicare, or when you need to enroll? Come and learn when you first become eligible for Medicare and when you need to make decisions about your Medicare coverage.  This presentation will provide a quick overview of the different parts of Medicare (hospital, medical and drug coverage), as well as the options you have to make (Medicare Supplement plans a.k.a. Medigap plans, and Medicare Advantage plans).  This presentation will also cover how your active employee coverage or retiree coverage will be effected by becoming Medicare eligible, as well as cost savings programs that are available to those that qualify to help deter the costs associated with Medicare.
