Dr. Donathan Brown is an Associate Professor in the Department of Communication Studies, and the H&S Director of Faculty Diversity and Development. This Wednesday at noon in Kling Lounge Dr. Brown will be offering a talk titled, Voter ID: The only Clear and Present Fraud.

With much debate over the existence of wide-spread voter fraud and the voter identification laws that have followed, much controversy continues to exist at the intersection of race, voting rights and socio-political retrogression. Dr. Brown will discuss relevant questions like: How many individuals have actually been convicted of voter fraud in states like Colorado and Texas? What role do these laws play with respect to race and maintaining political dynasties? Dr. Brown postulates that these questions and more are not only the topics driving this conversation, but too often contribute to the overall claim that widespread voter fraud is nothing short of a surgically executed myth designed to curb the realities of shifting racial demographics.

While the nation continues to find itself engaged in much conversation on the topic, little reliable data actually exists, instead replaced by press conferences, interviews and speeches that do nothing more than pivot around misleading talking points and hypotheticals. The goal of this discussion is to inform faculty, staff and students of the salient issues surrounding this topic. As always, all members of the IC community are invited to join in the discussion!
