Please join us on Wednesday, May 2nd, from 6 to 7:30pm (Campus Center Clark Lounge), to celebrate this year's winners in the writing department's spring contests.

The Judge's prize: "Petrichor" by Hale Dodges.  

Fiction: Mirelle Tinker's "Heart Disease" (winner); Rose Munsey-Kano's "Like Riding a Bike" (2nd place).  

Poetry: Jackson Short (winner); Jordan Gallant (2nd place).  

Non-Fiction: Ashae Forsythe's "What's in a Hoodie?" (winner); Christine Gaba's "Feast of the Seven Fishes" (2nd place).  

Feature/Magazine: Emily Snyder's "Ithaca's homelessness increase challenges local community" (winner); Kelly Twardziak's "Cats for comfort" (2nd place).  

First-Year: Rachel Crompton's "Cruelty-free Cosmetics" (winner); Lauren Eng's "On The Tip of the Tongue" (2nd place).  

Image/Text: Emma Sheinbaum's "It's You" (winner); Lisa Booth's "Blue" (2nd place).  

Personal Essay: Alex Durham's "父债子还 or, The Child Must Pay Their Father’s Debts" (winner); Rhiannon Coleman's "Disconnection is a Kind of Connection" (2nd place).


This year we received about 150 submissions, and the quality of work was top-notch. All entries were stripped of identifying information before they were forwarded to the judges. 


I want to thank you all for helping to spread the word, and a special thanks to those of you who volunteered as judges. 


Please do congratulate these students when you see them in the hall or in class; this is a tremendous honor.
