Mara Baldwin awarded artist residencies at Millay Colony and Ucross Foundation for Summer 2018Contributed by Ashley Bohn on 07/02/18 Mara Baldwin, gallery director at Ithaca College's Handwerker Gallery, was awarded two artist residencies during Summer 2018, at the prestigious Millay Colony for the Arts (Austerlitz, NY) and the Ucross Foundation (Ucross, Wyoming). Baldwin's studio practice uses obsessively-rendered drawings and hand-manipulated textiles to call attention to the overlooked historical spaces, writings, and makings of women. The work culminating from these residencies question flawed and counter-logical notions of gender & legacy within utopic Shaker spaces. During May and June 2018 Baldwin traveled to both residencies with the support of ACE funding to make new work in preparation for upcoming solo exhibitions at Wells College and Hobart & William Smith Colleges during Fall 2018.
