On July 23, 2018 registration will reopen for continuing students. At the same time, we will transition Ithaca College’s student information system HomerAdmin from Banner 8 to Banner 9. Banner 9 has many new features and increased functionality, including Waitlist, a function that many faculty and students have requested in the past. We have been fortunate to collaborate with colleagues at other institutions for guidance as they have already enabled waitlist with great success. Waitlist—a largely automated function, but transparent too, allows students to know at all times where they are in the waitlist queue. This will enable us to move away from capacity overrides, which are currently handled via workflow and require constant attention from faculty, administrators and staff. A how to guide for Waitlist, that replaces capacity override, can be found at Waitlist How to Guide Students who may have barriers to completing their degree on time or other exceptional issues can still request capacity overrides into a class by completing the following form: Capacity Override Exceptional Issues Finally, we intend to use this summer and early fall semester to review the Waitlist function and hope that you will take the time to send us feedback about how Waitlist is working or could be improved so we can make adjustments in advance of spring 2019 registration. Please share your thoughts at Waitlist Feedback or contact your dean’s office.
On behalf of the Office of the Provost, School Deans and the Office of the Registrar we look forward to implementing waitlist to create a transparent path for students to course registration.

I hope this will also enable department chairs to add sections to courses and populate it with students on a waiting list (provided the time of the new section fits in their schedule). To make this work best, it would be helpful if students signing up for a waiting list could indicate what alternate times work for them.
