Ithaca College Dining Services is pleased to announce an expanded partnership with LeanPath, a food waste prevention technology company that enables commercial kitchens to dramatically reduce food waste and operate more sustainable facilities. Ithaca College has used LeanPath since 2015 in some facilities, but starting in 2018 all dining halls will be on-line with LeanPath and will be able to track both pre- and post-consumer waste, including all food scraps and waste headed to compost bins or trash. The expanded partnership with LeanPath is designed to provide the tactics needed to control and reduce food waste.

Students, faculty and staff will notice, starting with the Fall 2018 semester, that the two small compost bins in IC Square have been replaced with trash bins. Trends have shown that contaminants placed in the IC Square composting bins by customers have often resulted in the inability to send these bins for composting. Dining Services will continue to work with the Office of Facilities and Office of Energy Management and Sustainability to find a solution to effectively reduce contaminants in IC Square.

Ithaca College Dining Services was verified by the Food Recovery Network in July 2018. The “Food Recovery Verified” status is recognition of our campus’s efforts to support FRN’s mission of connecting with students to redirect the surplus of perishable foods to the those in need in the Ithaca community.
