Career Services Prototypes New Name, Career CORE (Center for Career Communities, Opportunities, Resources, and Experiences) and Launches New Strategic InitiativeContributed by John Fracchia on 08/26/18 Over the past year Career Services, in keeping with recent innovations in the field of career development, has been reimagining itself and transitioning from a service delivery model to a career communities model. This new strategic initiative, being rolled out during the 2018-2019 academic year, is the result of numerous conversations, meetings, focus groups, and collaborations with both campus and external stakeholders (students, alumni, faculty, staff, employers, parents, and friends of the college) and is designed to leverage the talents and experiences of each of these partners to collaboratively prepare the next generation of leaders. The Career Communities model differs from traditional career development models in that it is centered around industries and affinities rather than specific majors and schools. As a result, it offers students targeted resources, deeper networks, relevant opportunities, and customized events. By design, students will likely find that their interests intersect with more than one community, offering them the chance to view their career path through a variety of lenses. Central to the strategy will be the new Career CORE website, powered by uConnect a leader in the field of integrated online technologies. This online space, which officially launches in October, will offer students and all community members 24/7 access to powerful tools and content related to their industry and affinity interests. Career CORE is excited to bring career communities to Ithaca College and to continue our collaborations with everyone who has helped us frame, build, and implement this new strategic direction. As we continue to prototype and develop the model, feedback from the community is welcome. |
