As part of Ithaca College’s partnership with Top Hat, and as part of the Teaching & Learning with Technology Instructional Series, we have scheduled a Brown Bag Lunch & Learn Workshop for Faculty in the Teaching & Learning Center (TLC) - Friends 101 next Friday, September 7th from 11:30 AM until 1:00 PM.

This presentation will introduce and teach faculty how you can use the Top Hat tool to increase student engagement, automate attendance/participation into Sakai, increase readership and reduce costs to students through no/low cost OER/AOER materials. Lunch will be provided to all attendees who RSVP by Thursday, September 6th.

Kathryn Caldwell from Ithaca's Psychology department worked with Top Hat during the pilot to pull OER materials from Openstax into the Top Hat platform to use alongside Top Hat's classroom response tool, which resulted in:

  • A savings of over $32,000.00 for her students in the Fall 2018 semester ($180 per student)
  • Increased attendance to lectures
  • A reduction in time spent on administrative tasks
  • Great feedback from students (as seen from past terms during the pilot)

Nicholas Porter from Top Hat will be presenting alongside Kathryn to answer questions and help anyone interested in getting accounts set up for the Fall and Spring terms. Please join us for this lunch and learn event to find out whether any of the tools available will be a fit for your classes!

To RSVP to this workshop, or for any questions, please email Dr. Jenna Linskens, Associate Director for Teaching & Learning with Technology, (jlinskens@ithaca.edu).

Individuals with disabilities requiring accommodations should contact Jenna Linskens at jlinskens@ithaca.edu or (607) 274-1590. We ask that requests for accommodations be made as soon as possible.
