All Ithaca College students are encourage to apply for the 2018 Social Action Leadership Retreat by September 30; the retreat will be held November 9-11.

Reflect. Discover. Empower.

Retreat Information and History:

For 16 years, the Center for Student Leadership and Involvement and then the Office of Student Engagement and Multicultural Affairs hosted the Cross Cultural Leadership Retreat (CCLR) for Ithaca College students to explore various aspects of diversity and their relationship to leadership. Beginning in Fall 2018, the Office of Student Engagement will host an updated version of this leadership retreat, call the Social Action Leadership Retreat (SALR). This event will be a two day retreat off campus where students can focus on the leadership skills required to be an effective community organizer and social justice activist. During the retreat, the entire group will participate in a series of educational sessions and discuss issues as a large group, as well as in smaller, informal conversations.

Who is this retreat for?
The Social Action Leadership Retreat will help any Ithaca College student develop skills and knowledge to drive positive social change for more socially just communities. No matter the issue or cause you are advocating for, it takes leadership to create change. All Ithaca College students belong to a multitude of different cultures including areas of ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, religion, socioeconomic status and many more. Therefore, we are looking for a group of people that come from many different cultural backgrounds, including those in the "majority." Every Ithaca College student is eligible and highly encouraged to apply.

What are the logistics of this event?
SALR is held off-campus at a retreat center. Lodging, meals, transportation and retreat materials are provided for all attendees; there is no cost to participate. SALR begins on Friday afternoon and concludes on Sunday morning. All participants must travel with the group and must attend the program in its entirety. This retreat counts as 3 Leading in a Diverse World sessions toward that track in the Student Leadership Institute.

How do I know if I've been selected to attend?
After the final application deadline, the SALR team will meet in to review all of the applications and select the participants. Those individuals not selected will be placed on an "Alternate List" in case spaces open up. Following the selection process, all applicants will be notified by e-mail of their application status before Fall Break.
