Dr. Claude Cohen was only a university-aged student when his family was forced out of Egypt due to rising anti-Jewish sentiment. Decades later, Dr. Cohen still remembers the hatred his family felt, and the millennium-old community that was utterly displaced in the span of a few short years.   

Today, refugees from the Middle East are once again on the move across the globe, and many represent minority religious communities. Dr. Cohen's personal story will shed much needed light on the larger history of refugees and persecution of religious minorities in the Middle East. In addition to sharing his family's story, Dr. Cohen will explain a few unique customs associated with the former Egyptian Karaite Jewish community. 

Traditional Karaite food will also be served, and a selection of music featured.  

The program will take place in the Taughannock Falls Room of the Campus Center at 6:30 p.m. on Monday, September 24th.
