Please remember to honor your pledge to be Car Free this Friday & Saturday, September 21st and 22nd.  And if you have not yet taken the pledge, it is not too late to do so – just leave your car at home and try a different mode for one day!

Use alternative transportation during these days; try walking, biking, roller blading, cartwheeling, or riding the TCAT to your destinations! Help to decrease your carbon emissions and get some fresh air.

Facts about alternative transportation:

  • You burn about 100 calories by walking a mile
  • You can reduce more air pollution if you walk or bicycle for short trips, compared to a long commute, because emissions are highest when a vehicle is started "cold." For instance, eliminating 5 separate one-mile vehicle trips reduces about the same amount of ozone-related pollution as eliminating one 15-mile trip.
  • You can bring your bike on the TCAT https://www.tcatbus.com/learn/bikes-onbuses/
  • Traveling by public transportation is 10 times safer per mile than traveling by automobile.
  • 91% of Americans commute to work using personal vehicles; only 5% regularly use transit.
  • Millennials consider public transportation as the best option for digital socializing and among the best for connecting with communities
