Contemplative Café Series: October 15 - December 3Contributed by Judith Ross-Bernstein on 10/04/18 Sponsored by the Center for Faculty Excellence on behalf of Julia Lapp, Faculty in Residence. How might refined attention bring about deepened concentration, insight, and awareness within our classrooms? Join the Contemplative Pedagogy Working Group for a discussion of pedagogical techniques for learning. The Contemplative Café series will be held in the Center for Faculty Excellence, 316 Gannett. Meditation and Wellness Mary Bentley will discuss how she uses meditation as one of the health behaviors that is a part of a project called “5 for 5” - experiencing 5 small, healthful behavior changes for 5 days each – in her class “Wellness: multicultural perspectives on Health and Healing”. Listening Skills in Physical Therapy Education Dr. Greenberger will present methods she uses to help physical therapy students develop skills in effective listening. Through a combination of class discussions, small group work, and role-playing, students gain communication skills that can be used with patients and in personal relationships. The selected topics course she offers teaches students how to recognize and censor automatic, habitual, non-listening responses, and create a culture of trust and respect between individuals. Individuals with disabilities requiring accommodations should contact Judith Ross-Bernstein at jrossbernstein@ithaca.edu or (607) 274-3734. We ask that requests for accommodations be made as soon as possible. |
