Virtual reality, augmented reality, and 360 video are immersive technologies having the potential to impact education and industry in areas as diverse as the arts, medicine, architecture, advertising, and entertainment. Advances in technology and the availability of reasonably priced hardware makes it feasible for Ithaca College to launch IC Immersive, an initiative designed to explore AR/VR/360 space. Immersive technologies are something one must experience to fully grasp the potential for knowledge cultivation and creation. Members of the IC community can join the kick-off at today's demo day!

The goal of IC Immersive is to provide opportunities for the IC community to experience these technologies, foster communities of interest, and provide resources to explore its use in teaching and research. Components include:

  • Learn and explore AR/VR/360
    • Provide opportunities to try out VR gear and experiences in TLT Instructional Media Lab & VR studio.
    • Offer workshops on 360 video production, augmented reality, and virtual reality at multiple entry points of experience.
  • Build Community around AR/VR/360
    • Facilitate online and in-person opportunities for individuals to share ideas, tips, tricks and experiences around immersive technologies.
    • Create partnerships on campus.
  • Apply AR/VR/360 in teaching and research
    • Visiting expert, Becky Lane, Ph.D, of Vision-Lab 360, is available to collaborate on efforts to incorporate immersive technology in teaching and research.

Please contact “Becky Lane at blane@ithaca.edu” for more information.
