Student Affairs Staff Honored at State Conference Student Affairs Staff Honored at State ConferenceContributed by Karen Walls on 10/25/18 Two members of the Student Affairs and Campus Life staff recently attended the state-wide conference organized by the College Student Personnel Association of New York.
Mary Holland-Bavis, Associate Director for Student Involvement served as the Vice President for Communications for this organization for the past year and a half. Doreen Hettich-Atkins, Director of Strategic Planning and Administration presented a Pecha Kucha presentation (a short slide show where 20 slides rotate at 20 seconds each) titled Parenthood is a Plus Not a Liability. Doreen also was recognized with the Dr. Daniel Bratton Award which recognizes a member of the association for Outstanding Service to the Organization. Numerous individuals jumped at the opportunity to write in support of Doreen with one nominator writing, “Doreen is always the one who wants to see progress happen and for us to be a better, more efficient, more dynamic Association. She does all she can to support the Board, whether on it or not. Often people fade away from the organization after their term and that wasn’t the case at all…I don’t know that there are many people who care about CSPA-NYS as she does.” Another eager nominator wrote “Doreen served as a president of CSPA-NYS for six years over two terms as President, a feat that places her not only in the good company of the members of the Crystal Circle, but also as only the second person to hold two terms in our nearly 50 year history as an association. During this time, she contributed to two significant strategic plans, supported a geographic expansion of the Association’s reach, bolstered our professional development offerings, and provided support to the board as we navigated new frontiers. She has used her leadership abilities to strengthen the association through an increase in our activities and our own independence as an organization.” One nominator really encompassed Doreen’s spirit and commitment to the association: “Doreen is a true champion of CSPA-NYS. Her commitment to CSPA has come through formal roles and work, but continues to this day. Never one to miss a Higher Ed Happy Hour, speak on a panel, or share her CSPA memories, Doreen continues to volunteer her time and share her love of CSPA for the greater good. Through her efforts, Doreen has demonstrated the spirit of this award and is deserving of this recognition.” It’s because of Doreen’s unwavering commitment to CSPA-NYS that she was honored with the Dr. Daniel Bratton Award for Outstanding Service the Association! Please make sure to congratulate Doreen on this well-deserved accomplishment! |
