Postdoctoral Teaching Fellow in Screen Studies, Sueyoung Park-Primiano, presented her paper, "The War Trilogies of Italy and South Korea: Postwar Cinemas of Resistance and Reconciliation," at the Italy and East Asia: Exchanges and Parallels International Conference held at Stony Brook University, Long Island, on October 13, 2018. The paper offers a comparative analysis of the war trilogies from Italy (Roberto Rossellini) and Korea (Choi In-kyu), providing equal attention to their local and regional histories--such as Korean cinema's prior investments in the realist aesthetic as an anti-colonial strategy--in order to better understand neorealism and decenter it from its Western locus.
