This year, we have two opportunities for students who are interested in taking advantage of ITHACON, IC’s in-house comic book/pop culture convention to get some real-world experience in marketing and event-creation.  Think of it as a class/internship where you never have to leave campus.

You DO NOT have to be an English major or in the Business School to sign up for these classes.  They are being co-taught by Katharine Kittredge (English) and Ed Catto (Management). You cannot sign up for both classes; choose the one that most interests you:

 ITHACON: Promoting and Managing Conventions - 42998 - MGMT 29800 – 01

Students who sign up for this class will design promotional materials, launch social media campaigns, and work to network with community partners.  A great opportunity to flex writing and graphic design skills!

 Professional Development Practicum - 43012 - ENGL 29700 - 01

Students taking this class will choose some part of ITHACON to make their own.  The schedule is flexible, and has room for everyone’s talent or obsession. In the past, IC students have:

  •      Designed workshops, including: crafts, arts, animation, creative writing, and web desgn.
  •     Run cosplay events.
  •     Created a graphic novel reading room and a “Harry Potter” space.
  •     Designed and run “Art Challenge” activities.
  •     Created panels on their favorite pop culture obsession.
  •     Scripted, choreographed, and filmed the “Tiny Dancing Zombies” flash mob video.
