“How can the class be full when Homer says there are seats left?!”Contributed by Stu Fegely on 11/06/18 Have you ever tried to register for a class that appeared to have seats remaining, only to find it closed? This can happen to students who are registering for a class that is cross-listed, which means the course is being offered under two different subjects. (For example, “Sport Economics” is offered as a Sport Management course and an Economics course.) The confusion can arise from the way Homer indicates seat availability. HOW HOMER INDICATES REMAINING SEATS: For a given section, Homer lists the section capacity (“Cap”), the actual number of seats taken (“Act”), and the remaining seats (“Rem”). But this refers to how many students have registered under that particular subject (e.g. Sport Mgt), while other students have also registered for it under the other subject (e.g. Economics). To see the actual number of remaining seats, you must look at the number of remaining Cross List Seats (“XL Rem”). If that number is zero, the class is full / closed. If the class is full and it has a waitlist available, Homer will give you the opportunity to add yourself to the waitlist after you’ve attempted to register. For more information about waitlists, visit the Registrar’s Office webpage: https://www.ithaca.edu/registrar/register/waitlist/ For more information about cross-listed sections, refer to the “Cross-Listed Courses” document on our web page: https://www.ithaca.edu/registrar/docs/Student/crosslist/ |
