Please be aware that scheduled maintenance for Kaltura will take place on the Kaltura East Coast Data Center network system this weekend according to the timeline below. This maintenance will improve performance and stability, and support increasing bandwidth demand and scalability of the system. Ithaca College uses Kaltura to power media in Sakai and media.ithaca.edu, as well as for live streaming of events.

Maintenance will occur:

  • Friday, November 9th 18:00-02:00 (6:00 pm - 2:00 am)
  • Saturday, November 10th 14:00-00:00 (2:00 pm - midnight)
  • Sunday, November 11th  TBD based on progress

Kaltura will update the status of the maintenance work, as well as any changes or extensions to the timeline in the Kaltura Status Page at status.kaltura.com.

During this maintenance, all production traffic will be served from their West Coast Data Center, and a short interruption in live stream service is expected while traffic is shifting. People who are streaming without using the backup link will have disconnections if you are streaming during the above timeframe. Almost all departments who regularly stream do not seem to have a scheduled event during these times, but if you are planning to stream please be advised.

We strongly advise to configure your encoder to use the back-up link, (or utilize a different streaming service if you are able) in order to ensure a smooth experience. For best practices and instructions on setting up the encoder, please feel free to review Kaltura’s live best practices guide here.

You can also contact Matt Gorney, Coordinator of Digital Media Services, via email at mgorney@ithaca.edu or office phone 607-274-5700 if you have questions or plan on streaming during this time.
