On November 1st, Ithaca College received official notice that the Department of Recreation and Leisure Studies was awarded continuing accreditation for their Therapeutic Recreation (TR) Program until 2025 by the Council on Accreditation of Parks, Recreation, Tourism, and Related Professions (COAPRT). 

The Council approved the following commendations:

  • Department is to be commended for pursuing and maintaining academic excellence as evidenced by 27 years of accreditation.
  • Involvement in professional organizations and service is exceptional
  • The Program has gone above and beyond expectations by providing their students with unique learning opportunities that impact the learning experience.  Program has developed exceptional learning labs both on and off campus to enhance curricular needs.
  • Faculty have demonstrated a solid understanding of the assessment process and student learning outcomes

The program also received the Best of the Best award, recognizing their role in training highly effective professionals in the field of Therapeutic Recreation.
