Junior English major Eliana Berger presented her paper “Parroting, Androgyny, and Hyper-Femininity: Eliza Haywood’s Gendered Manipulation of the Periodical in The Parrot” on January 4, 2019 at the British Society of Eighteenth Century Studies, held at St. Hugh’s College in Oxford, UK.

Eliana’s paper grew out of her 2018 H&S summer scholar’s project that included extensive research into the role of female authors and editors in early periodicals.  She continued her research while at the London Center this fall, doing a long-distance (very) independent study with Katharine Kittredge and receiving on-site mentoring from Chris Mounsey, Professor of English at University of Winchester.  Eliana’s paper was well-received, and lays the groundwork for her future projects as she pursues her larger goal of becoming an archivist/librarian.

Congratulations to Eliana and kudos to all the wonderful mentors who helped her.
This is a great example of what an Ithaca College education can be.
