 This year, we welcome our guest speaker and presenter John Sims, who will be our Key Note to kick off the first day of our celebration week.

***Monday night's Keynote event has been rescheduled to Tuesday, January 22nd.

 This year's theme, "Every Step Toward the Goal of Justice" is taken from a larger quote in Dr. King's book, Stride Toward Freedom. In this book, Dr. King writes,

Human progress is neither automatic nor inevitable. Even a superficial look at history reveals that no social advance rolls in on the wheels of inevitability. Every step towards the goal of justice requires sacrifice, suffering, and struggle; the tireless exertions and passionate concern of dedicated individuals. Without persistent effort, time itself becomes an ally of the insurgent and primitive forces of irrational emotionalism and social destruction. This is no time for apathy or complacency. This is a time for vigorous and positive action.

 Sims will be with us helping to explore facets of Dr. King's vision through justice, music and math. Event locations and times are listed below.

Geometry of Justice: From MathArt to FlagArt

This multimedia lecture will present two large social system art projects that examine and arbitrate the language and culture of oppositional symbols and identities.

Keynote: A Blazing Glory: Space, Time, & Justice- Rescheduled 

For his keynote address, Sims will combine selected readings from his forthcoming memoir on the "Recoloration Proclamation" projection with related short films to present a dynamic journey of forbearing witness, creative resistance and collective healing.

‘AfroDixieRemixes’: The Ithaca Responses

This evening’s presentation will feature the listening of various tracks from the "AfroDixieRemixes" collection, along with the responses of a small group of 4-5 people from the Ithaca College Community.

The event will also include a historical introduction to the song "Dixie" and additional "AfroDixieRemixes" music videos.
