Ithacan Clare Grady will be giving a talk entitled "Faith and Practice: Non-Violence, Symbolic Disarmament and the Kings Bay Plowshares Action" on Saturday, January 19, 4:00, at the Quaker Meetinghouse, 120 Third Street, Ithaca

Ithacan Clare Grady was one of seven Plowshares activists who took part in non-violent “sacramental action” at the Kings Bay Trident Submarine Base on the coast of Georgia on April 4, 2018, the anniversary of the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. 

They were arrested after entering the naval base and pouring their blood on a bunker housing nuclear weapons. Clare and her co-defendants are charged with three federal felonies and a misdemeanor. They argue they are conscientious objectors, acting upon their deeply held religious convictions, and have asked that the charges be dismissed. The trial is expected to be held in February or March in Brunswick, GA. If found guilty, they face up to 25 years in prison.
