The Ithaca College/Longview Partnership: Opportunities for Campus Community Involvement - Spring 2019Contributed by Christine Pogorzala on 02/13/19 Ithaca College has had a very successful programmatic partnership with Longview, a retirement community located on Danby Road, for the past 20 years. There are a number of opportunities for members of the Ithaca College Community to become involved at Longview. The Ithaca College Faculty & Staff Lecture Series at Longview One feature of the partnership between IC and Longview is an ongoing Faculty & Staff Lecture Series. Presentations are generally scheduled on Wednesday evenings from 7:00 – 8:00 PM in the Longview auditorium, although alternate dates and times may be possible. An appreciative audience is guaranteed! These are informal talks and can be on a wide range of topics, including - but not limited to - academics, the arts and current events, or areas of personal interest, such as a sport, hobby or travel experience. Dates that are open for the Spring Semester include: Wednesdays: February 20th or 27th; March 6th or 27th; April 3rd or 17th; and May 15th or 29th. Anyone interested in giving a presentation on any of these dates should contact Chris Pogorzala. A speaker is currently needed for one of the February dates! Course Related Projects at Longview Faculty members can involve their students at Longview through course related, and/or service learning projects. Intergenerational discussion groups, tours of Longview, recreational and social activities planned by students, and student presentations or performances held at Longview are all possibilities. The Partnership Coordinator, Chris Pogorzala, will work with faculty and students to identify options and to facilitate scheduling, promotion of programs, and recruitment of Longview participants. The Longview/Ithaca College Shuttle On days that classes are in session there is a shuttle that provides transportation between Longview and the College in the morning, with stops at the Center for Health Sciences and Textor. This shuttle is available to members of both the Longview and Ithaca College Communities. The shuttle schedule for Spring 2019 is posted on the Gerontology Institute website at: https://www.ithaca.edu/aging/longview/. There are sometimes slight changes made to this schedule to accommodate for course related activities that require the transport of students to Longview. Any significant changes made to the existing schedule will be posted to Intercom. If the shuttle is canceled due to bad weather or other unforeseen circumstances, a notice will be posted on the Gerontology Institute web address listed above. Contact for all of the above: Christine Pogorzala, Ithaca College/Longview Coordinator
