Scott Manning Stevens on Indigeneity and Early Modern Theater--Tues. 2/26Contributed by Dan Breen on 02/24/19 Professor Scott Manning Stevens of Syracuse University will visit Ithaca College this coming Tuesday, February 26, in order to deliver a public lecture at the Handwerker Gallery at 6pm. The title of the lecture is "Unexpected Encounters: Shakespeare, Indigeneity, and Early Modern Theater." Professor Stevens holds appointments as Director of Native American and Indigenous Studies and in the Department of English at Syracuse, and he has written extensively on Native American culture over the last twenty years. His articles have appeared in such journals as Early American Literature and Comparative American Studies, as well as in essay collections such as the Oxford Handbook of American Indian History. He has in addition co-edited three books: a collaborative study of early American art history entitled Art of the American West; a critical anthology entitled Why You Can't Teach United States History without American Indians; and a collection that examines aspects of civilian culture during the American Civil War entitled Home Front: Daily Life in the Civil War North. Professor Stevens' talk is being sponsored by the Ithaca College Medieval and Renaissance Studies Faculty Colloquium and by the Department of English.
