Ithaca College

Plowbreak Farm, owned and operated by Kara Cusolito '08 and Aaron Munzer '08, will again be offering locally grown vegetable CSA shares to the Ithaca College community, with a convenient pick-up site at the Peggy R. Williams Center on Wednesdays, and a downtown pickup on Thursdays at the Westy, a local beer garden. The farm is located in Hector, about twenty miles from the college, and grows six acres of produce in fields and greenhouses that overlook Seneca Lake.

How does Plowbreak Farm's CSA work?

As a CSA member, you share in the harvest of a farm, investing in early spring when costs are high and receiving dividends in the form of fresh produce all season long. The cost is $25 per week for 23 weeks of fresh, local produce - at least 10-12 types each week - for a total cost of $575. Per adult, that's a cost of only $12.50 per week. Boxes are packed and delivered each week to the Peggy Ryan Williams building with an assortment of seasonal produce.

Plowbreak’s non-boxed CSA pick up is held at The Westy, in Ithaca's West End. It's a market-style setting, and members have the flexibility to choose which vegetables to take home that week. 

What vegetables are in a typical share?

CSA shares vary depending on the season. On a typical week, the offering includes 10 to 12 different types of produce, a range of salad greens, cooking greens, crunchy roots, cooking roots, onions, tomatoes, squash - the list goes on.
