Ithaca College will hold a shelter-in-place drill on the morning of Wednesday, March 13, in three spaces occupied by Information Technology: the first and third floors of Job Hall, the first floor of Terrace 13, and the 14th floor of the East Tower. From 8:30 to 11:00 a.m., those offices will be completely closed to the public and the Information Technology Service Desk and other IT services will not be available. The rest of the campus will not otherwise be affected.

The Office of Public Safety and Emergency Management is working with offices across campus to develop individualized emergency response plans, and the drill will provide an opportunity for employees who work in Information Technology to practice responding to an active-shooter type situation. The drill will not include any simulated attack, but rather will commence and conclude with an announcement to those in the three affected IT locations.

The drill is being held during spring break in order to minimize any disruption, and will be similar to the one conducted over winter break in the Campus Center, Fitness Center, and Library.

While the Information Technology offices in Job Hall will be closed during the drill, other college offices on the second floor will be open, as will the first-floor corridor. The rest of the East Tower and Terrace 13 will also be open.

Supervisors in the respective areas have provided information and instructions to their employees, including student workers, about what actions to take during the drill.

Signage will be placed at each building and office entrance in advance, and Public Safety members will be stationed near the involved areas during the drill. Members of the campus community not participating do not need to take any action.

If you have any questions about the drill, contact Bill Kerry, director and chief of the Office of Public Safety and Emergency Management, at wkerry@ithaca.edu.
