Registration is currently open for the Spring offering of the R.A.D. self-defense course for women. Spaces still remain available for this class, which will be conducted in four 3-hour sessions on Wednesday evenings during April from 5:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. This course is open to any student, faculty or staff member who identifies as female. Participants must be able to attend all four class dates (4/3, 4/10, 4/17 & 4/24) in order to receive certification. Course registration is $15; however, this fee can be waived in cases of financial hardship. As just one component of the College's broader S.H.A.R.E. sexual assault prevention strategies, R.A.D. seeks to support all women on campus who feel they would be further empowered through training in physical defense. The course is intended to be welcoming and accessible to any experience or ability level. The requirement to make the specific R.A.D. curriculum open to women only is a stipulation of the national R.A.D. office. However, Ithaca College recognizes that sexual violence can impact anyone, and that any community member may seek opportunities for self-defense training. Men on campus who are interested in such training can contact the Office of Public Safety to discuss options.
