The IC campus has been successfully using Duo for several months now. While we know that it can be inconvenient at times, the number of compromised accounts has been drastically reduced, which is good news for both users and the college.

Here are a few tips for using Duo:

Did you know that Duo can remember you for 14 days on the Outlook Web app so that you don't have to do the extra authentication step every time?

  • On the screen that prompts you to choose an authentication method, BEFORE selecting a method, check the "Remember me for 14 days" box at the bottom of the prompt window. Note that if you sign in "differently" next time, i.e. from a different device or browser, you'll have to select the "Remember me" box there as well.

If you have an office or work phone, or some kind of tablet device with Duo Mobile installed, you should set up an alternate way to authenticate in case your mobile phone breaks or gets lost.

  • Go to https://www.ithaca.edu/it/services/duo/
  • Authenticate to Duo ("remember me" is not allowed here)
  • Under My Settings & Devices click Add another device (you may have to scroll down to see it)
  • Select the type of device you want to add and follow the on-screen prompts.
  • Once configured, you can use this device as an alternate authentication method by selecting it from the Device drop-down menu at the top of the Duo screen.

See our Duo FAQ page for additional questions and answers about Duo.
