Provost Seeks Applicants for Three Positions Supporting Academic Programs and FacultyContributed by Danette Johnson on 03/19/19 The Provost is seeking applicants for three positions supporting academic programs and faculty to start at the conclusion of the spring 2019 semester. Associate Provost for Academic Programs Description: This individual will oversee undergraduate and graduate academic program planning, assessment, and review in collaboration with relevant offices and faculty committees across campus. Additional responsibilities include: serving as liaison to Middle States and to the New York State Department of Education, providing supervisory oversight for relevant offices and college-wide academic programs, participating in committees or other groups as assigned, and assuming responsibility for oversight of the Division of Academic Affairs in the absence of the Provost. Qualifications: Current, tenured member of the Ithaca College faculty who will be appointed for a three year, 12 month term (renewable upon mutual agreement of the individual and the Provost). An earned terminal degree; knowledge of best practices, current issues, and future trends in higher education and curriculum; proven ability to provide leadership in a culture that values collegial decision-making and to work successfully with a broad range of individuals and groups; ability to represent the College effectively with internal and external constituencies; and excellent organizational, interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills are required.
Associate Provost for Faculty Affairs Description: This individual will oversee faculty recruitment, development, and retention processes in collaboration with relevant offices and committees across campus. Additional responsibilities include: overseeing department chair development opportunities; handling all student appeals and related matters as the Provost’s designee; providing supervisory oversight for relevant offices; serving as primary manager of all Academic Affairs policies (including those in the Policy Manual) and policies of the Provost’s Office; directing management of software systems related to faculty work; and participating in committees or other groups as assigned. Qualifications: Current, tenured member of the Ithaca College faculty who will be appointed for a three year, 12 month term (renewable upon mutual agreement of the individual and the Provost). An earned terminal degree; knowledge of best practices, current issues, and future trends in higher education and faculty work; understanding of campus policies related to faculty, including promotion and tenure policies; proven ability to provide leadership in a culture that values collegial decision-making and to work successfully with a broad range of individuals and groups; ability to represent the College effectively with internal and external constituencies; and excellent organizational, interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills are required.
Faculty Advocate Description: This individual will act as an approachable, impartial and neutral listener, counselor and fact-finder for faculty members, helping to mediate conflicts, provide feedback, and suggest referrals to other resources as needed. Additional responsibilities include: addressing concerns from faculty related to bias; providing independent reports to the President and Provost regarding all concerns of bias, including but not limited to the tenure and promotion process; offering guidance to chairs, deans, and the Provost in addressing individual and collective faculty concerns; providing counsel to faculty engaged in the tenure and/or promotion process, including preparation for appeals or responses and more general questions about processes and policies, and to the various evaluative bodies associated with the tenure and promotion process; and providing feedback and mediation regarding employment-related concerns of faculty at all ranks. The individual will regularly attend Faculty Council meetings as an ex officio member of Faculty Council. Qualifications: Current, tenured member of the Ithaca College faculty who will be appointed for a three year, part-time term (potentially renewable for one additional term) reporting to the Provost. The individual in this role retains faculty status and is expected to teach one course per semester. An earned terminal degree; understanding or experience with conflict management, mediation, or related dispute resolution; knowledge of campus policies related to faculty, including promotion and tenure policies; proven ability to provide leadership in a culture that values collegial decision-making and to work successfully with a broad range of individuals and groups; ability to represent the College effectively with internal and external constituencies; and excellent organizational, interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills are required.
