SGC statement regarding the recent event in New Zealand.Contributed by Mary Holland-Bavis on 03/21/19 SGC statement regarding the recent event in New Zealand.
On March 15, 2019, a white supremacist opened fire in a mosque in Christchurch, New Zealand. As of March 17th, the attack has claimed 51 lives, and many more are critically injured. The Student Governance Council wants to extend condolences and offer support to all those students who may have been affected by recent events. We would like to remind students of resources available on campus, including: CAPS: Open M-F 8:30- 5:00 PM 607-274-3136 ICARE: This is a great resource if you are concerned about a peer. Submit a report here. Ithaca College Office of Religious and Spiritual Life: Visit the chapel or reach out to the Chaplains. We are saddened to once again be responding to tragedy. But we are also reminded of the strength of the human spirit in the stories of those lost last week. We remember the man who greeted the attacker as “brother.” We remember the man who attempted to disarm the attacker as peacefully as possible. May we remember all those lost in New Zealand, and all those we have lost to senseless and hateful violence. Contact: VP of Communications, Mark Scaglione
