Distinguished Visiting Writer David Lazar (Essayist) Reads Thursday at 6 pmContributed by Nick Kowalczyk on 04/03/19 Acclaimed essayist and creative nonfiction scholar David Lazar will give a public reading at 6 pm Thursday at the Handwerker Gallery as part of the Distinguished Visiting Writers Series. Lazar is the author of three essay collections — I’ll Be Your Mirror, Occasional Desire, and The Body of Brooklyn — and the prose poetry collections Powder Town and Who's Afraid of Helen of Troy? The editor of several anthologies on the essay — among them Truth in Nonfiction and After Montaigne — he also is the founding editor of the literary magazine Hotel Amerika. The first person ever to earn a PhD in nonfiction writing (University of Houston, 1989), Lazar is a professor in the undergraduate and M.F.A. programs in Nonfiction Writing at Columbia College Chicago.
