Shortly after 5:00 on Wednesday, 4/10, a phishing email message was sent to numerous IC email accounts, purportedly from an IC student, with the subject “Dog sitter needed.” The message asked recipients to respond to a Gmail address if interested in a job which would supposedly pay a significant amount of money for dog sitting. IT quickly blocked communication between the IC email system and the phishing Gmail address, and identified and notified the people who may have responded to the message. As a reminder, always be extra suspicious of any unexpected email or text messages that "sound too good to be true," even if the referenced company or person seems recognizable or associated with an organization you are familiar with. Attackers are increasingly initiating multi-message conversations with victims to get them to lower their guards before asking them to do something risky. See our knowledge base article for more information about how to recognize phishing scams. Information Technology Service Desk |
