Ithaca College

Dance Nation is a play about an army of pre-teen dancers who are fiercely committed to doing whatever it takes to triumph, not just at the Boogie Down Grand Prix in Tampa Bay, but at whatever life hurls at them. Clare Barron’s play—described as “blazingly original” by the New York Times—is about the awkward messiness of adolescence; about young people claiming and unleashing their power; and about the ways in which our adolescent selves are haunted by the adults we eventually become.

The staged reading has been directed by Claire Gleitman (Professor, English), and assistant directed and choreographed by Jordy Dias (IC class of 2018).  The cast includes faculty members (Kathleen Mulligan, Barbara Anger), students (Lydia Kelly, Maya Brettell, Sushma Saha, Anthony Garcia, Roxy Matten, Avery Lynch), and members of Ithaca’s professional acting community (Jacob White, Holly Adams).

There will be a brief discussion with the playwright immediately following the performance.

The reading is at 6:30 p.m. at the Cherry Artspace, at 102 Cherry Street. The performance is free for students; a $10 donation is suggested for non-students. Please note that the play contains adult content and some strong language.
