Ithaca College and other collaborating partners will be honored at the grand opening of the Tompkins Center for History and Culture Friday, May 10

The center’s art gallery/program space will be named in recognition of the college’s support and collaboration. Located in the Ithaca Commons, the center will help visitors explore the county’s past, present and future. It brings together the Ithaca Tompkins County Convention and Visitors Bureau, the History Center in Tompkins County, the Community Arts Partnership, and other history, heritage and cultural organizations. Exhibits will include a timeline, artifacts including maps and photographs, and interactive displays that bring Tompkins County’s history and culture alive.

The event begins at 5 p.m. The Dorothy Cotton Jubilee Singers will perform outside before the 5:20 p.m. ribbon cutting. Visitors can then tour the new building, where refreshments will be served. President Shirley M. Collado will greet visitors in the art gallery/program room until approximately 6:30 p.m., and an ensemble of IC musicians will play. The center will be open for touring until 7:30 p.m.

The center is at 110 N. Tioga St. in the Commons between Center Ithaca and the Bernie Milton Pavilion. The IC community is encouraged to attend this exciting community event. RSVP is required by May 6.
