Need an elective for the fall semester? Are you interested in the health or helping professions and want to develop your counseling and communication skills?Contributed by Julia Lapp on 04/27/19 Seats are still available in HLTH 30600 Counseling for the Health Professions. T/Th 2:25 – 3:50, Attributes: Health Electives, Non-Liberal Arts. 3 credits. The course covers theory, application and skills for working with individual clients to help them achieve their health related goals. Emphasis will be on health related behavior change but the topics covered in this class are generalizable for any situation that would benefit from skillful communication. We will focus on motivational interviewing, reflective listening, attending and affirming, and principles and methods for motivating and guiding clients to manage disease and maintain wellness. Students will learn, and have in-class opportunities to practice strategies for effective engagement.
