Do you need ICC diversity credit? Are you interested in understanding how people are constructed as “deviant” or virtuous? Are you or do you plan to become a Counseling Minor or Legal Studies Major? Then this is the course for you!

Looking at “deviant” behavior can tell us important things about the way our society is organized, how “values” are defined, and how we arrange ourselves hierarchically. We will use the topics of deviance and “normality” to examine how some groups of people have the power to shape definitions of deviance, and control others with those definitions. We will look at the consequences of this labeling process, how people come to develop a deviant identity and what that means to them in the course of their daily lives. In so doing, we will reveal the power relations that define and control individuals and groups.

Definitions of Normality also fulfills requirements for the Counseling Minor and Legal Studies Major/Minor. If necessary, contact the instructor to request a prerequisite override: Prof. Dunning-Lozano, jdunninglozano@ithaca.edu

There's still time to register for May Session ICC diversity credit course that also fulfills requirements for the Counseling Minor and Legal Studies Major! | 0 Comments |
